Assuming this is aforementioned heads-already-on-it engine you were asking about ptv on, become or brand a piston stop and put it in no.1 plug hole. Turn the engine by hand and mark the balancer relative to the timing pointer when you have piston to terminate contact. Then plow engine in opposite direction until you again hitting the stop. Mark. Midpoint between your two marks is tdc.

Yep information technology is. I sympathize finding tdc with the piston stop, but are you saying read the caste measurement on the balancer tab and then dividing them(rotating the engine clockwise confronting the piston stop taking a measurement, and then counter clockwise taking a measurement from the balancer tab)? Because my balancer has no numbers on it, besides tdc mark. Thanks, and sorry for the confusion.

Merely measure the distance from terminate to stop, divide by 2
That is true TDC
If you want to mark you damper for Twenty advance
π*D/360*number of degrees y'all want for any marking
Instance
7" damper & 36°
3.1416*7/360=.0611
.0611*36=2.199
Mark the damper at 2.199 from your zero
This is 36° BTC
Or after if you mark the incorrect side

As was mentioned recently in some other thread, I think it'southward a practiced practice to make a small witness marker on the face of the balancer (extending downwards from the timing marking is a good identify) downward across the outer band, elastomer(rubber) to the inner hub. This will inkling yous if the balancer pieces start moving. Information technology's non all that unusual for the outer ring to skid on a hard driven engine, especially with stock or inexpensive balancers. Then your timing marks are no longer accurate, too as having a safety hazard.

Are you request how far apart the degree marks should be?

Measure the diameter of the balancer, be every bit authentic every bit you can.
Multiply by Pi (3.141)
Divide past 360

The event is the distance between ane degree marks.
To brand 5 degree marks, multiply that by v, etc.

Some of the smaller degree wheels are the same bore as the harmonic dampener, easy work once truthful tdc is found.

So much to exercise, and then footling time...
